HUMBOLDT — Christmas may be five weeks off, but Terry Butts isn’t one to wait.
She has her shop, Terry’s Home Decor and More, 107 S. Ninth St., all decked out with Christmas finery, including 16 trees lavishly covered with a wide variety of Christmas decorations.
In addition to ornaments, Terry said nativity scenes and wreaths started selling early.
And if the look of Christmas doesn’t titillate, the shop’s smell does. Butts has a wide selection of Fraiser Fir by Thymes candles, lotions and soaps, all of which “smell like Christmas.”
A special service offered by Butts and her crew — Judy Middendorf, Judy Daniels and LaDonna Krone — is in-home decorating for the holidays. But, those who haven’t made arrangements, may have to wait a year for their professional touch. “We’re pretty well booked up for this year,” she said.
“People are shopping earlier this year. We’ve sold out of some things, but have reordered and will be fully stocked again,” in ample time for one of the town’s busiest Christmas shopping days, the annual craft festival at the high school on Dec. 1.
“That’s when we’ll have our Christmas open house,” Butts said.
Don’t wait, she advised. “We have some great gifts — jewelry, scarves, lamps and many nice everyday gifts that aren’t just for the holidays.”
Butts also has one of the largest selections of home decor in the area, including larger items such as inviting over-stuffed chairs, occasional tables and rugs that would fit nicely into the decorating scheme of any home.
Terry’s has been designated a Home and Garden TV store, which means “we sell lots of things that are designed by celebrities and are seen on the TV channel,” she added. “We also are a full-service flower shop,” with live, cut and artificial flowers.
The shop’s clientele includes many within 100 miles of Humboldt and Butts likes to say she serves the tri-city area of Humboldt, Iola and Chanute.
The shop is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and “at any other time by appointment.” For more information, call 473-3747 or 473-2743.
